We humans have taken everything for granted, we built planes, computers, even landed a man on the moon "for the sake of mankind" ["That's one small step for man. One giant leap for mankind] and somewhere along the way we forgot that we were at the mercy of nature somewhere we got an illusion that we are greater than it.
We forgot that idea to build a plane was by seeing the flying birds, the other day I saw birds flying in a v shaped pattern this is the basis of aerodynamics and reducing drag and friction, no humans told these birds to fly in this way they nature taught them.
We have abused the nature to no ends and it has something to do with our mindset, its the same mindset that most of us do during our childhood during exams i.e. study at the last moment, Its the same mindset that we have long ignored in climate change giving carbon emissions target when we can do now, would we wait for the glaciers to melt and sea levels to rise to start acting upon.
Now we are faced with the new challenge which threatens our existence in the form of Corona Virus, I read a pretty bad quote the other day it went something like this "What if Corona Virus is the cure for the earth" this quote tells the whole story, we were supposed to be friends with the Earth and take care of it but our mindset of superior species has taken over.
Now that the pollution levels have reduced due to COVID-19 the nature's stakeholders are taking their rightful place be it the Dolphins playing in canals in Italy or the birds and its family crossing the once busy Israel airport runway in peace.
If this pandemic had not hit us we would have never stopped and mind you we have stopped not for Mother Nature but again for "ourselves", If anybody had told us to stop factories or transportation for 48 hours no country would have agreed to, the closest we get to the pause which we mostly do not follow is the Earth Hour, its frustrating to see that we think of Earth Hour as 1 out of 8760 hours in a year.
We have built firewalls for the digital world but we somewhere along the way we forgot to build one to prevent the harm caused to the Earth.
We have built a materialistic world where saying things to protect the earth is frowned upon and its always quantified in money, we do not have another planet like this its the best one yet in our Galaxy scientist have been finding for years, we should protect what we have been bestowed upon.
We should coexist with the nature and treat all the stakeholders of the nature on par.and equal.
I hope that whatever is happening currently will give wisdom in the minds of people and humanity will prevail, we have always come back from the darkest of days and multitude of problems its time we take the Earth a little more seriously after all its out home and the only place for foreseeable future generations to live.
